Lime Rock Park (LRP) will celebrate the 37th anniversary of Paul Newman’s historic Trans-Am win with a rare one-day-only exhibit of his racing estate during the Trans Am Memorial Day Classic (May 26-29). Organized by Sotheby’s in advance of “The World of Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman” auction in June, with logistic support from Salisbury Bank, the exhibit is part of a larger celebration of the late actor and racing legend’s life and career.

The “World of Joanne Woodward & Paul Newman” exhibit will highlight the personal collection of the former “Hollywood It” couple, including two of Paul’s Rolex Daytona watches, a selection of helmets, racing suits and other memorabilia that Newman used during his storied career.

The museum-like exhibit will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 27 ONLY. Admission is included with a VIP Hospitality ticket

“We’re thrilled to be hosting this special exhibit in honor of Paul Newman,” said Lime Rock Park President Dicky Riegel. “Newman was not only a great actor and philanthropist, but also a passionate and talented race car driver. His legacy continues to inspire people around the world, and we’re honored to be able to share a small part of that legacy with our visitors.”

Additionally, motorsport icon Boris Said will serve as the Grand Marshal on Saturday, May 27 for the Trans Am Memorial Day Classic.

A veteran driver with over three decades of experience, Said is widely recognized as one of the most versatile drivers in motorsports history. He competed in Trans Am, NASCAR, IMSA and various other racing series, earning victories and accolades throughout his illustrious career.

As Grand Marshal, Said will preside over the event’s opening ceremonies, giving the starting commands and waving the green flag for one of the largest Trans Am TA2 fields in Lime Rock Park’s history with the series.

Said will be an extra interested observer as his son Boris Said Jr. will be racing for the first time at Lime Rock Park driving the No. 86 3 Dimensional Services Group Chevrolet Camaro.

“I’m honored to be named Grand Marshal for the Trans Am Memorial Day Classic,” commented Said. “Trans Am has been such a big part of my career and I always love being at Lime Rock Park so this is pretty cool for me. The fact that I get to throw the green flag for my son’s race is even better!”

Said has a long storied history with the famous Connecticut 1.5-mile circuit driving with Trans Am. Ahead of claiming his Trans Am Championship title, Said won the Trans Am Memorial Day Classic in 2002 crossing the finish line by more than 4.5-seconds ahead of his closest competition.

Also driving in Trans Am this time in a Mustang, Said started from pole position after setting the fastest lap in qualifying in 1996. Also in the Mustang in 1995, he set the fastest lap during the Trans Am race.
