More than 450 Carroll Shelby memorabilia items and other collectibles are now available for bidding on Mecum’s online auction platform, Mecum On Time. All items are being offered at no reserve.
This year marks what would be the 100th birthday of the late, great Carroll Shelby, and it’s an occasion that won’t go without a bit of fanfare among his ardent loyalists worldwide.
The Shelby American/Le Mans MkII – Sports Car Racing Collection focuses on the legacy of not just Carroll Shelby and the Ford GT40 MkII racing program that dominated Le Mans, but also on sports car racing throughout that era as a whole. The assemblage ranges from original photographs from the 1966 Le Mans to Cobra key fobs, Shelby American T-shirts, flyers and spec sheets for Shelby’s GT350, posters, parts list booklets, stickers and more. Highlights include a rare 1971 Steve McQueen Le Mans Movie Poster, rare Cobra Powered by Ford Lighter and an original 1969 Shelby GT350, GT500 Press Kit.
The Celebrating 100 Years of Carroll Shelby: Performance Parts & Memorabilia Collection is an excellent embodiment of Carroll Shelby’s history, with hundreds of pieces paying homage to his wildly iconic career in the automotive space. The collection features documentation, hand-signed artifacts, showroom literature, rare press packets, decals, parts, reference books and more. Among the featured items is a 1965 Mustang GT350 Owner’s Manual that is considered one of the most desirable versions, as well as a collection of 29 reference binders assembled by Shelby American Automobile Club Founder Rick Kopec to establish a timeline and reference source on the history of Shelby American. The binders include hundreds, if not thousands, of original magazine articles, PR photos, small advertisements and more and would be impossible to reproduce today.
Other noteworthy items include a very rare 1968 Shelby GT350/GT500 Showroom Silk Banner, 1963-64 Shelby American Cobra Racing Team Jacket, a 1963 Shelby American “3 Championships” Poster, a 1962-63 Early AC Shelby Cobra Showroom Brochure and a 1967 Shelby American 427 Cobra Dealer-Only Poster.
