Philadelphia’s Simeone Museum is looking to continue its tradition of providing sounds and smells (in addition to sights) through its regular Demo Days in 2023. The popular events are typically held twice a month on Saturdays from around 11am through 2 pm and are moved indoors if the weather is uncooperative.

Up next for the museum is a timely look-back at the wet and wild 1965 12 Hours of Sebring on Saturday, March 25. The Demo Day will feature three cars from the museum collection representing racing from that period.

1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport

One of five Corvettes produced by Zora Arkus-Duntov’s Grand Sport program, and one of two roadsters. Chassis 002 was the only car of the five that was never restored and much has been done to retail all of the history it holds.

1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe

Chassis CSX2287 is the first of just 6 built and is the only one left in original, unrestored condition. The stories around this car are extravagant and plentiful. Pete Brock’s Daytona Cobra Coupes book is a good place to start, but good luck finding a copy for under $1,000.

1966 Ford GT40 MK II

Chassis XGT1 competed only once in its history – the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. Driven by Sir John Whitmore and Frank Gardner for Alan Mann Racing, the car was retired five hours into the race due to clutch issues.
