Last year’s Velocity Invitational at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca was a vintage racing-weekend trend setter. If you missed it, make sure you plan now for the event’s Monterey, Calif., return, October 14-16—a unique vintage racing event that will feature a gourmet food and wine pavilion, wine tasting tents, luxury spectator accommodations, static vehicle displays, and, of course, racing on one of North America’s most spectacular road courses.
A wide variety of historic race cars will share top billing on the weekend-feature list with a selection of McLarens from its Formula 1 and sports car team; a corral of rally cars from several eras courtesy DirtFish; and mind-boggling assemblage of hypercars.
Included in the McLaren line-up will be Ayrton Senna’s 1990 Formula 1 World Championship-winning MP4/5B-07, which won six out of 16 races that year; Alain Prost’s MP4/2B-3, which won the 1985 F1 title ; the F1 GT12R that competed in the 1996 Le Mans; plus others including several McLaren F1 roadcars.
Beyond celebrating motorsport history, fans will get to see some of the world’s most sophisticated hypercars in action from several manufacturers including the 2022 Hennessey Venom F5 Coupe and F5 Roadster which debuted publicly at The Quail during Monterey Car Week; the new 1,233hp Czinger 21C V—0 to 100kph in just 1.9 seconds; and the Zenvo TSR-S, a Danish hypercar which boasts an active multi-axis rear wing that pivots with the steering to increase downforce on the required wheel.
Meanwhile, Velocity Invitational is delighted to welcome America’s go-to rally experts, the Seattle-based DirtFish Rally School. Owner Steve Rimmer will supply six of the sport’s most famous rally cars, including a Group B Lancia Rally 037, MG Metro 6R4, Subaru Impreza and Peugeot 206 WRC.
The stunning collection of rally cars will be driven by two members of motorsport’s best-known family—Alister McRae and his son Max.
“It’s an honor to have such historic and cutting-edge race and rally cars attend our event from all eras,” said Velocity Invitational Founder Jeff O’Neill. “It’s my goal to have the best of the best on display at Velocity Invitational, and the racing pedigree of these race cars will be right at home in the pits and on the track this year.”
