At this point, I’m sure we have all heard our fair share of superlatives about 2021. How it was the rebirth of racing and a chance to get back to “normal” and whatnot… I honestly don’t know what any of that really means so I will spare you my attempt at anything mildly poetic.

Instead, I wanted to share a few highlights from the year and say a sincere thank you to everyone that reads content on the website, checks their email for the newsletter, and of course cozies up with the print magazine we all so admire. From all of us – Thank You!

Catching fire in the far reaches of the internet and niche Facebook groups was this stunning video of lead mechanic Lewis Cullington starting up the ex-Graham Hill Lotus 38/8S for the first time in 50 years. The video is less than 30 seconds long, but it packs an impressive punch. I’ve watched it nearly a dozen times just to hear that  4.2-liter quad cam Ford sing.

Photos from vintage events are always a big hit and this year was no different. Vintage Indy at WWT Raceway, Lime Rock Park’s Historic Festival 39, WeatherTech International Challenge at Road America, Monterey Pre-Reunion and SVRA at Mid-Ohio all cracked the top-15 in terms of traffic. A big thank you to our contributing photographers Bill Stoler, Robin Thompson, Steve Rossini, for turning their photos around quickly to share.

Lastly, a couple of Shelby related auction stories found a big following in 2021 with Carol Shelby’s 427 Cobra selling big at Mecum’s Kissimmee Auction and a few rare Shelby GT500s that were on display at Barrett-Jackson’s inaugural Houston Auction.
