While the term “supercar” has been around for some time and somewhat universally identified, “hypercars” are a fairly recent notion and often not quite as easily defined. Due to the seemingly exponential innovations made in automotive technology in recent years, road going cars are now able to reach staggering milestones such as 250+ MPH top speeds and horsepower figures well over 1,000.
The Petersen Automotive Museum’s upcoming Hypercars: The Allure of the Extreme exhibit (opening Dec. 4) dives into the very question of what exactly makes a hypercar. Of course, there will evidence of such claims in the form of automobiles that fit the bill like the 2017 LaFerrari Aperta pictured above.
