One-of-One Ferrari LaFerrari Leads RM Sotheby's London Auction Sales

By

RM Sotheby’s held its 15th annual London auction this past weekend (November 6th), during “The London Motor Week”. The auction, hosted at The Royal Automobile Club and with previews taking place in the historic Waterloo Place just off Pall Mall, grossed $10,527,602 (£7,765,265) with a pair of iconic supercars topping the sales.

The 2016 Ferrari LaFerrari, finished in an exquisite one-of-one special order livery of Vinaccia paint over Pelle Chiodi Di Garofano interior, sold for $2,904,651 (£2,142,500). A star of the legendary hypercar trio, this LaFerrari has covered just 918 miles, boasts a documented service history by authorized Ferrari dealers, and is accompanied by fitted luggage, manuals, and toolkit.

Thirty years before the LaFerrari was made, it was the Porsche 959 that embodied all that automotive technology had to offer in the 1980s. The Grand Prix White 1987 Porsche 959 offered in the London sale, was first delivered to Germany and had, unusually, been in the same ownership since 1989. The ultimate ‘poster car’ of the 1980s, the 959 exceeded its pre-sale high estimate bringing $1,570,104 (£1,158,125).

Another car which garnered a huge amount of pre-sale interest, was the 1928 Mercedes-Benz 630 K which had, incredibly, been in the same family’s ownership for the past 90 years. This historic and powerful supercharged pre-war touring car was presented in entirely unrestored condition and boasted unique features such as bullet holes inflicted during the 1936 Spanish Civil War. This wonderful car made an outstanding $1,074,416 (£792,500) and was the third highest selling lot in the sale.

RM Sotheby’s 2021 live auction calendar draws to a close later this month with The Guikas Collection, held at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, France on Friday 19th November. Comprised of 75 of the finest road and track automobiles from a single-owner collection, each lot is offered entirely without reserve.
