VIDEO: Road Scholars "Deep Tracks" with Racer and Raconteur Brian Redman

The always interesting social media Road Scholars  — author/RS owner Cam Ingram and racer/former Brumos Porsche GM Ray Shaffer — tracked down legendary racer Brian Redman following up in late-summer 2020 on an earlier Instagram Live special presentation.

Wrote the Scholarly pair in teeing up this 75-minute conversation with one of racing’s elite: “Who would have imagined back in May when we did our second show on Instagram live to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Porsche’s victory at the legendary Targa Florio that we would have the opportunity to speak with one of the men who claimed victory at one of the most challenging and treacherous races in history.

“Brian Redman’s remarkable racing career took place during one of the most exciting and truly dangerous periods in motorsport. He competed in Formula 1 from 1968 to 1974, driving for McLaren, Shadow, Cooper-BRM and Williams; and became very successful in the USA in [Formula 5000, Can-Am and IMSA] sports car racing.

“In addition to winning the 1970 Targa Florio alongside co-driver Jo Siffert, Redman also claimed victory at the 12 Hours of Sebring twice and the Spa-Francorchamps 1000km an impressive four times. He survived a number of horrific crashes in racing, including a devastating crash while testing a Can-Am car during practice which went airborne at 170mph and landed upside down, breaking multiple bones and causing his heart to stop.”
