Santa Monica, CA — As Gooding prepares to begin the second of three Geared Online Phil Hill Automobilia Collection sales at 9 a.m. PST next Monday (Feb. 8), notable new additions have joined the docket. More than 300 lots from the famed driver’s life in racing will be available for the first time at public auction.
The sale’s online catalog will be available Monday, but a look at the newly-added items shows a Herbert Johnson Racing Helmet worn by Hill during his first overall victory in the 1958 Le Mans 24 Hours. The helmet is accompanied by Hill’s helmet bag, visors and goggles from his early Grand Prix career.
Additional highlights:
- – Hill’s Le Mans 1962 Winner’s Trophy
- – his Shelby Cobra Team Jacket, c.1963
– a Rolex ‘Zenith’ Daytona with inscription “1993 Daytona 24 Hours Winner” on the caseback, along with its original box, manuals and sales certificate - – a Rolex Datejust awarded to Hill at the 2003 Le Mans 24 Hours, inscribed with “Spirit of Le Mans;” also included are its box, manuals, sales certificate and spare wristband links
The first of Gooding’s three Phil Hill Collection sales, conducted in early December, achieved a 100% sell-through rate on 242 lots. The final part of the sale will be conducted March 15-26.
