Champaign, IL — In a year that outdid itself in creating sadness and negativity, you could still find some positive spots of continued camaraderie and generosity in the vintage car community.

At the beginning of 2020, we shared news about the growing interest in SVRA’s Miata Heritage Cup, sales were up over 2019’s results at Arizona Auction Week, and the Brumos Collection opened the doors of its new museum in Jacksonville.

In one of the few concours to take place, Best of Show winners were crowned at Amelia Island while auction results at the event were also up over the previous year.

As the world began closing, new possibilities opened. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway debuted its digital archive. Museums found ways to still show us new exhibits and collections through video. Auctions continued to attract fresh interest — indicated by records set by Barrett-Jackson, Gooding and Mecum — even as the bidding method transitioned to an online-only format for many of the sales.

Car clubs opened up their events to members of clubs whose seasons had very nearly washed out. And club members continued to show generosity in raising money for their charity partners, along with events that were allowed to take place.

So as we embark on 2021, let’s do all we can to continue to show the world the heart and soul of the vintage car community. That will go a long way in making it a better new year for all.
