Blenheim, Ontario, CANADA — RM Sotheby’s live auction held last weekend in Elkhart, Indiana achieved a total of nearly $44.4 million in sales and a 100% sell-through rate. With more than 240 cars and a wide selection of memorabilia offered almost entirely without reserve, the sale featured bidding activity in the auction room and remotely from 2,500 bidders in 53 countries. More than half of the bidders were first-time RM Sotheby’s clients.

The star of the auction was a rare 1952 Ferrari 225 S Berlinetta by Vignale that sold for $2.810 million. Its competition history includes a second overall finish at the 12 Hours of Casablanca in 1952, fourth overall at the 1952 Monaco Grand Prix, and 10th overall at the 1952 Mille Miglia, among other events.

Another rare competition car — a 1955 Cooper-Jaguar T38 Mk II — sold for $1.765 million. The second of three examples built with Jaguar’s racing-specification XK engine, the car claimed six victories at Goodwood and Silverstone in the 1956 and 1957 seasons.
