On the cover is none other than “The King” Richard Petty’s favorite race car, the 1971-’72 STP Dodge Charger, the first of the Petty STP Dodge Chargers that ruled NASCAR in the 1970s. He tells why this particular Charger model worked so well on so many different NASCAR tracks. We also tell the story of how this STP Charger was discovered and how the 50/50 STP Red and Petty Blue paint scheme was born. Did we mention the peace symbol driver headrest? Yes, and you can read all about the car here, a Dodge fit for a King.

Our 7-page Salon feature homes in on the stunning Bizzarrini A3/C 1965 Le Mans class winner — the front, mid-engined racer Corvette V8-powered and capable of 190mph on the long Le Mans straight, a car that defied the odds.

NBC Sports motorsport commentator Paul Tracy talks about his favorite race in the PPG Indycar World Series — the 1993 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, where he won in a Penske PC-23 despite nursing injuries from an impromptu karting race with friends.

In our “Road Stir” series, “Barn Find Hunter” Tom Cotter samples the ever-popular BMW 2002 tii, a car that created a cult following in the 1970s that has not abated. It was a sports sedan that was desirable then and is desirable now, with prices escalating these days. Find out what makes it a BMW icon.

With the racing success of the 8th generation Corvette, we thought it would be fun to join together a Corvette race car from every generation of America’s sports car, so we did, at Sebring. All lined up, what a sight to see! Richard Prince’s photos will dazzle you.

We were also happy to cover vintage racing events that recently waved the green flag including the huge WeatherTech International Challenge at Road America, SVRA’s fantastic Vintage Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio and CSRG’s David Love Vintage Races at Sonoma Raceway. Great racing and beautiful cars at speed!

Of course, columns by BS Levy, Jochen Mass, Pete Lyons, Jeff Allison, Fritz Frommeyer and D. Randy Riggs are here as well, along with all the auction action reports by John L. Stein.
