VRG Cancels Jefferson 500

Summit Point, WV — Vintage Racer Group announced July 16 that revisions in COVID guidelines made by the State of West Virginia earlier this week have impacted plans for the group’s Aug. 6-9 Jefferson 500 at Summit Point Motorsports Park, leading VRG to cancel the event.

“For decades the Jefferson 500 has been not only one of the marquee events at Summit Point, but one of the ‘must see’ events in motorsports,” said Stephen Hyatt, VRG’s Chief Steward.

“Exciting vintage racing has always been at the heart of this weekend, but the ‘festival’ atmosphere that surrounded the on-track action has been just as important. West Virginia’s revised COVID guidelines, announced earlier this week, did not permit much of what was planned for the Jefferson 500.”

Originally scheduled for May, VRG worked with multiple event organizers to move the date to August, hoping that COVID-related restrictions would be eased by that time.

The Jefferson 500 will return to its traditional May date in 2021. Remaining dates on VRG’s 2020 season schedule include the Sept. 4-7 Lime Rock Historic Festival at Lime Rock Park, the Oct. 16-18 VRG at The Glen at Watkins Glen and the Nov. 20-22 Turkey Bowl at Summit Point.
