Washington, DC — The Illinois Motorsports Coalition (IMC), a group comprised of racing facilities across Illinois, has submitted a SEMA-supported eight-step plan to Governor J.B. Pritzker that would allow motorsports to safely resume statewide.

The plan offers comparisons with the status of racing in Illinois’ neighboring states — including Indiana resuming outdoor sporting events with seating at 50% capacity beginning June 13, and at 100% capacity beginning July 4.

Under Governor Pritzker’s current Restore Illinois plan, motorsports may not return to action until late 2020. Illinois entered Phase 3 of the plan Friday (May 29), but only test and tune sessions with a maximum of three cars on track are allowed.

According to a May 28 update from the state’s General Counsel for the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity that was posted on the Fairbury Speedway website, the department is “working on developing direction for racetracks for race events that could occur in Phase 4, under capacity restrictions.”
