RMVR Moves Thunder on the Arkansas to La Junta Raceway

Denver, CO — Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing President Jeff Payne announced May 17 that the organization’s board has decided to move the Thunder on the Arkansas event from its original June 6-7 dates at Pueblo Motorsports Park to a June 13-14 schedule at La Junta Raceway.

“The reason for the change is that Pueblo Motorsports Park is not open as yet and the city of Pueblo, which owns the facility, cannot guarantee when the track will open,” Payne said in an email to RMVR members. “After talking to the other local track managers, we learned that they are all booked through June, so we were fortunate to be able to secure the dates at La Junta.”

Payne also reminded members that in the midst of a major pandemic, RMVR’s first event of 2020 is “more about the experience of getting back to what we do as a racing club and not so much about the location or the length of the racetrack.”

“For me, just getting back in the race car and on the grid with friends is a major victory!” he added. “I would like to believe that everyone can still come out and enjoy a great weekend of racing in safe and well managed way. There will of course be additional safety measures in place and no communal meals like we had planned for the Pueblo event.”

Sixty racers are already on the entry list, and Payne is hoping to make arrangements to add a June 12 lapping day.
