18 Racers Compete in VRG Virtual Season Opener


Alton, VA — Vintage Racer Group completed the first race of a six-week Virtual Racing Series April 28 with its Bunny Scramble on the Virginia International Raceway course.

Twenty participants entered and 18 racers of all ages made the grid for the iRacing contest, with Darin Treakle the runaway victor. The two-hour race replay is available on the club’s YouTube channel — with racing starting about an hour in. VRG had 15 compete in the April 21 practice session at Summit Point Motorsports Park.

The club will continue to live-stream each of the five races in the series on YouTube, including commentary by VRG’s IT Director Ian Wisbon. Next up is the May 5 Jefferson Grand Prix at Summit Point.

Open to any VRG member and to guests of VRG, the virtual racing series will take place from 8-10 p.m. Tuesdays for the next five weeks utilizing iRacing.com. Participants are required to have an iRacing membership, now 50% off for new members, and own the content (tracks and cars) used in the series.

The cars being utilized in the series are among the GT3 specification, so racers can choose from Audi R8 LMS, BMW Z4 GT3, Ferrari 488 GT3, McLaren MP4-12C GT3, and Mercedes AMG GT3.
