VRG Completes First iRacing Practice Ahead of April 28 Virtual Series Opener

By

Manassas, VA — After announcing late last week that it would launch a Virtual Racing Series League, Vintage Racer Group held the first pre-season event — a practice session at Summit Point Motorsports Park — on April 21.

“We had 15 VRG virtual racers in our very first practice event,” VRG vice president Jim Karamanis — who’s also serving as chair of the virtual racing series — told us.

“It was fascinating to watch guys with thousands of laps of virtual experience hit the track against racers with thousands of laps of real world experience who are just now coming into the virtual sport,” he said. “Everyone was respectful and helpful. It’s the VRG family attitude that participants have come to expect at our ‘real world’ VRG events transferring right over to the virtual world.”

“The series kicks off next week with ‘The Bunny Scramble’ at VIR,” Karamanis added. “We have at least five more racers joining for that event and look forward to the continued growth of the series.”

Open to any VRG member and to guests of VRG, the virtual racing series will take place from 8-10 p.m. Tuesdays for the next six weeks utilizing iRacing.com. Participants are required to have an iRacing membership, now 50% off for new members, and own the content (tracks and cars) used in the series.

The cars being utilized in the series are among the GT3 specification, so racers can choose from Audi R8 LMS, BMW Z4 GT3, Ferrari 488 GT3, McLaren MP4-12C GT3, and Mercedes AMG GT3.

Virtual season schedule:

4/28: Race 1, VIR (Bunny Scramble)

5/05: Race 2, Summit Point (Jefferson Grand Prix)

5/12: Race 3, New Jersey Motorsports Park (Airfield Classic)

5/19: Race 4, Lime Rock Park (Connecticut Grand Prix)

5/26: Race 5, Watkins Glen International (Champions Grand Prix)

6/01: Race 6, Participants Choice (VRG Virtual Cup)
