Paris, FRANCE — RM Sotheby’s concluded its Feb. 5 sale during Retromobile Week with total sales of more than $18.1 million and a 75% sell-through rate.

The highly-anticipated Poster Car Collection was a particular success and brought in more than $7 million of the total. The star lot of that collection, a matching-numbers 1958 BMW 507 Series II, sold for $2.196 million to claim the top spot among all Sotheby’s offerings.
Another matching-numbers model, a 1964 Porsche 904 GTS, sold for $2.1 million to surpass its pre-sale estimate. And a 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing with interesting early competition history sold for $1.17 million.
Bonhams realized a total of more than $21 million in sales at its Feb. 6 auction to record its best-ever result in Paris.
Its top seller — and the most valuable lot of all Retromobile Week auctions — was a 1932 Bugatti Type 55 Roadster with Le Mans history that sold for over $5 million. The rare example (one of only 29 surviving) came to market following 56 years in the same family’s ownership.
And a 1934 Talbot AV105 Brooklands Sports Racer, a victor at the Brooklands circuit in the hands of noted racer Dr. Roth and W.M. ‘Mike’ Couper, sold for more than $959,000.
