Santa Monica, CA — Gooding & Company will present an exclusive auction event titled “Passion of a Lifetime,” featuring selections from one of the world’s most revered private collections, to be sold at the historic Somerset House in central London on April 1, 2020.
The company says it has a “meticulous commitment to bringing together the most coveted and valuable examples of European sports and racing cars from the 20th century” for the sale. Gooding has not yet identified the private collector or any of the vehicles included in the auction.
Gooding also noted that it will finish 2019 with total sales of $147 million and an 82% sell-through rate, with 291 lots sold during the company’s three auctions at Scottsdale, Amelia Island and Pebble Beach.
Of the total, 32 cars sold for more than $1 million, and the year’s top sale was a 1958 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider that brought $9.905 million at Pebble Beach. Gooding also set seven model-specific world auction records in 2019, including for a 1953 Ferrari 250 MM Spider Series II that was among the top three most expensive cars sold during 2019’s Arizona Auction Week and set a world auction record of $5.395 million.
