Genius Garage Launches Slot Car STEM Program in Detroit

By

Bowling Green, OH — Genius Garage founder Casey Putsch announced last week the launch of a free-of-charge STEM-based educational program for young people in the Detroit area that will utilize slot cars to teach the basics of engineering and automotive design. The six-week program for students ages 8-13 will be conducted at 1 p.m. every Sunday beginning Jan. 12.

“Engineering is a massively in-demand career path and hands-on experience is crucial to landing a job,” said Putsch. “We hope our program provides young students with a fun learning environment while inspiring them to pursue a career in engineering and the automotive world.”

Applicants must write a minimum one-page paper about why they like cars and racing, as well as how the program could be meaningful to their lives.

Genius Garage is offering full scholarships for students who are accepted, so the only investment for a family is the time commitment from the student and parent/legal guardian, along with transportation to the track. Following completion of the program, students will get to keep their slot cars, tool box and controller to race at any public race track around the country.
