Bakersfield, CA — After wildfires forced the cancellation of The Racing History Project’s Oct. 12 event focusing on two lost southern California race tracks, it’s been rescheduled for 3-7 p.m. Nov. 17 at Valley Relics Museum in Van Nuys, Calif.

The first track is the short-lived and sinuous Paramount Ranch road course in the Santa Monica Mountains, an outdoor filming location for more than 500 movie and TV scenes and host to five sports car races and two stock car races in 1956 and 1957.

The second is the San Fernando Dragstrip — where from 1955 to 1969, local heroes and nationally-known professional drivers put on some spectacular, smoky, ear-shattering quarter-mile shows.

The Nov. 17 Racing History Series event begins with a presentation, videos and panel discussion about the legendary Paramount Ranch race course, presented by noted author Tony Baker, whose latest book, Southern California Road Racing, will be available at the event.

The second segment, moderated by Steve “The Car Guy” Ford, will feature memories of San Fernando Raceway, with a presentation, videos and a panel discussion.

Panelists for both sessions will include many who raced and wrenched at these two iconic tracks.

Overall event participants will include a number of Paramount Ranch racing drivers and others, including John Dixon, Bill Watkins, Ron Cummings, Tom Young, Bill Haislett, Alice Hanks and Allen Kuhn.
