Pebble Beach, CA — It seems only fitting that in its celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Bentley brand, the Pebble Beach Concours might find an example worthy of its highest honor.

That proved to be the case at Sunday’s event as a 1931 Bentley 8 Litre Gurney Nutting Sports Tourer owned by Sir Michael Kadoorie, a Hong Kong-based billionaire hotelier and investor, was selected Best of Show.
Restored in 2004 and acquired by Kadoorie in 2010, the Bentley’s history includes use by previous owners for tours and rallies.
When it debuted in October 1930, the Bentley 8 Litre boasted the largest chassis produced by Bentley. Powered by an inline six-cylinder engine with an overhead camshaft and four valves per cylinder, the car’s output was 220 horsepower — capable of achieving a top speed of over 100 mph.
Other finalists for Best of Show included a 1938 Talbot-Lago T150C-SS Figoni & Falaschi Teardrop Cabriolet owned by Richard & Melanie Lundquist of California; a 1936 Mercedes-Benz 540K Erdmann & Rossi Special Cabriolet owned by the Keller Collection of California; and a 1962 Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato Coupe owned by David F. MacNeil of Florida.
