London, ENGLAND — RM Sotheby’s and Formula 1 on Tuesday (June 18) announced the launch of a multi-year agreement between two global leaders. The organizations plan to grow the partnership to incorporate both live GP-based sales and online auction capability, providing F1 fans and collector car enthusiasts around the world the chance to acquire their own piece of motorsport and automotive history.

The first year of the collaboration will culminate at the season-ending F1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2019 with a Nov. 30 sale of significant cars and memorabilia, forming the region’s first major international collector car auction. The auction at the Yas Marina Circuit will offer a selection of significant Grand Prix racing machines and road-going sports cars with historical connections to the world of motorsport, headlined by the championship-winning 2002 Ferrari F2002 driven by F1 racing legend Michael Schumacher.
Retiring from the track after the 2002 season, chassis 219 has since been held in private collections across multiple continents. Considered one of the most significant Formula 1 cars and a representation of Ferrari and Schumacher’s golden era as reigning champions, its offering in Abu Dhabi is one of the most important opportunities of the year. A percentage of proceeds from the sale of the F2002 will be donated to Michael Schumacher’s Keep Fighting Foundation.
