Clearwater, FL — Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) officials announced last week that its 2019 race event schedule will feature two new events, along with return engagements for some of the most popular events in international historic racing.
HSR’s 2019 calendar will open March 28-31 with HSR Spring Fling Weekend at Sebring International Raceway, the first all-new event on the schedule.
Following the Sebring opener is the 42nd HSR Mitty at Road Atlanta, April 25-28, showcasing Alfa Romeo as the featured marque. Now in its fifth decade, the Mitty is one of the oldest historic and vintage races in the U.S.
Next up will be HSR’s debut at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala., for the May 17-19 Barber Historics. This new event marks the first of next year’s partner events with the Historic Motor Sports Association (HMSA).
The Barber Historics race will be followed by a return visit to the Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant in Quebec, Canada, for the July 11-14 Sommet des Legendes, the season’s second joint event with the HMSA.
After the traditional late-summer break, HSR’s schedule resumes with the Sept. 26-29 Atlanta Fall Historics.
It will be followed by the Nov. 13-17 HSR Classic Daytona presented by IMSA. The season will then close with the Dec. 4-8 HSR Classic Sebring 12 Hour at Sebring International Raceway.
In addition to 2019’s schedule of on-track race weekend events, HSR is close to finalizing its first automotive touring or road rally event this season.
“Close competition and camaraderie on and off the track have always been at the foundation of HSR events, but recently our member competitors have been asking us to look into an automotive event with a bit more focus on the social side,” said HSR President David Hinton. “We have seen manufacturer partners organize such ‘fun run’ events around HSR weekends in the past, but our competitors focused on racing couldn’t participate. Most have street-going classics just as impressive as their historic race cars, so we are finalizing details for a road-going event in the first part of the summer, away from a race weekend, that will let our member competitors enjoy a different type of motoring event with their friends and competitors from the track.”
