Colorado Springs, CO — Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser Jr. will return to the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb for the first time since 1989.

Unser, named Pikes Peak King of the Mountain in 1983, headlines the top entries for the 96th running of the event June 24.
Other featured drivers include Pikes Peak superstars Clint Vahsholtz, a 23-time champion; Paul Dallenbach, returning after missing last year and seeking his ninth win; the veteran Layne Schranz, making a 25th appearance; David Schmidt II, also a 25-time race veteran; and Spencer Steele with three victories during 17 consecutive years in the Race to the Clouds. The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, an invitational automobile and motorcycle hillclimb, is staged every year on the last Sunday of June. Inaugurated in 1916 by Spencer Penrose, founder of the Broadmoor Hotel, the classic race takes place on a 12.42- mile, public toll road with 156 turns as competitors climb 4,720 feet from the start line (mile 7 marker on the Pikes Peak Highway) to the 14,115-foot finish line at the mountain’s summit.
