La Junta, CO — Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing got back to racing last weekend with their Thunder on the Arkansas event. We had a chance to catch up with RMVR President, Jeff Payne, to hear how things went and local photography pro Rupert Berrington provided some great photos.

“Our weekend at La Junta went quite well considering. We had about 68 drivers and 35 volunteers. Of course our protocols were a bit different for the weekend, but everyone stepped up and made it work. The meetings were held outside and everyone stood apart and used their masks. We had a food truck come to the track for lunches both days and it worked out great!”

“The track manager, Allan Lasater, was very accommodating and made everyone feel welcome. He also sang the national anthem (he plays in a rock band in his spare time). It was hot, especially on Saturday so it was hard on the volunteers, mostly for the grid workers who wore masks the whole time!”

“The racing was plenty exciting but all of the drivers kept it reasonably in check. We got through the weekend with only a few spins and an oil-down or two. No metal-to-metal contact!”
