Scottsdale, AZ—The Jet Center Foundation hosted a charity lifestyle event here January 17 at the jet hanger of Aero Jet Services at the Scottsdale Airport.
Like a mini McCall Motorworks Revival that kicks off “Monterey Car Week” in August, this posh social gathering was on a smaller scale but just as elegant, showcasing luxury jet aircraft, exotic cars, exhibits of fine art, a silent auction, fine food, wine, jazz music and lifestyle amenities that are relished around the world.
The Jet Center evening get together was planned as an annual event and is in its second successful year, bringing together the local collector car crowd with people from other states who were visiting to attend Arizona Car Week and the many auctions taking place.
Besides the upscale atmosphere, a highlight for racing enthusiasts was the appearance of Pat and Bob Bondurant. Bob won the FIA Manufacturers’ World Championship for Shelby American andFord back in 1965. He was also the technical consultant for the film “Grand Prix” and trained lead actor James Garner to drive Formula cars. His world-famous driving school is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
Exotic cars on display included a ’56 Ferrari 500 Testa Rossa with it original engine and body, a superb ’52 Lancia Aurelia PF 200, ’66 427 Cobra, two Ford GTs, ’64 Austin-Healey BJ8, ’74 Porsche RSR, 2016 Porsche GT3RS, McLaren 570 Spider, 2016 Ariel Atom 3s, 2012 Ferrari Italia, ’54 Alfa Romeo 1900SZ, ’72 Corvette, and a 2012 Lamborghini Aventador.
Many were thrilled to see the original Ridge Route Terrors front-engine Top Fuel dragster on display that was once driven by James Warren (No. 38 on the NHRA’s list of top 50 racers in 2001). The digger was filled with Nitro fuel and readied to fire up the blown and injected Chrysler Hemi. A lady won a raffle and her prize was to be outfitted in a fire suit, gas mask and goggles and experience the dragster’s 2,000hp as exhaust flames lit up the night sky while she sat in the cockpit —stunned by the immense power-—she’ll never forget it!
This charity event supports Child Help, dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child abuse and Forever Loved Pet Sanctuary.
